The basic tasks of the Department include:

1. granting permits for discharge of substances or energy into the environment and concessions on extraction of minerals (mining);
2. issuing decisions on waste management;
3. drafting strategic documents concerning environmental protection, air protection, protection of the environment against noise, waste management and asbestos removal;
4. taking actions related to post-implementation analyses, ecological reviews and areas of limited use;
5. taking actions related to the climate and its protection, including reducing the consequences of climate change and adaptation to climate change.
