The Regional Surveyor’s Office operates based on the Organizational Regulations of the Marshal Office of the Wielkopolska Region in Poznan.

The Marshal of the Wielkopolska Region exercises substantive supervision over the activities of the Office.
Basic obligations of the office include tasks specified in the following documents:

1. The Act on Surveying and Cartography Law issued on the 17th of May 1989:
   1. maintain a regional surveying and cartographic resource base,
   2. carrying out regional cartographic studies and making them available,
   3. creating, following the arrangements made with the Surveyor General of Poland, and managing topographic databases whose accuracy allows for creating standard cartographic studies on 1:10 000 – 1:100 000 scales, including cartographic studies in terms of DTM (Digital Terrain Model) and standard cartographic studies on a 1:10 000 scale as well as making the aforementioned databases available,
   4. analysing the changes in agricultural structure and conducting the programming and co-ordination of equipment and agricultural works,
   5. monitoring changes in the manner of using land and its classification,
   6. co-operating with the Surveyor General of Poland in managing the state registry of plot boundaries and areas of the state territorial division units with respect to regional territory,
2. The Act on land consolidation and exchange assigning the Regional Self-Government, with, in particular, the co-ordination of consolidation and exchange works within the Region,
3. The Act on infrastructure for spatial information implementing the INSPIRE Directive with respect to building and implementing an infrastructure for spatial information,
4. Regional Development Strategy for the Wielkopolska Region related to the activities for building an Information Society by creating and developing the infrastructure for spatial information, including preparation, building, implementation, management and maintenance as well as development of the Spatial Information System of the Wielkopolska Region (SIPWW), the following includes:
   1. co-ordination of activities and co-operation in favour of SIPWW with Office Departments, Regional Self-Governments, organisational units, poviates, communes, governmental administration offices, and other entities,
   2. supervision over the implementation of regional space and information management systems.

The organisational structure of the Regional Surveyor's Office includes:

• Division for Surveying and Co-ordination of equipment and agricultural works BGW-I-G
• Regional Division for Surveying and Cartography Documentation BGW-II
• Division for Spatial Information System of the Wielkopolska Region BGW-III-S.
